Be still and know I am God. – Psalm 46:10

Stillness can be a challenge for me. I don’t like to be unproductive. During my time with the Lord, it can be hard to get my mind quiet. My mind likes to wonder off and think about my agenda for the day. Sometimes I can get carried away with chores or various tasks. I start one thing, finish that, find something else to do, and once that is done, I move on to something else. This repetitive motion sometimes urges my husband to beckon me to “chill out” or he might say “That can be done tomorrow”. I think to myself, “I don’t want to wait till tomorrow. Sure I’ve been busy with the boys today. I did some cleaning around the house, I been to the grocery store, and cooked dinner. But, I want this load of freshly cleaned clothes folded up and put away now. Not tomorrow.” Obviously this isn’t healthy. This can leave me extremely exhausted by the end of the day. Also, knowing I have to wake up a couple of times a night to feed my five month old, does not make sleeping any easier. Sometimes I can be a little stubborn. That is why my Abba has been dealing with me in this area. He is teaching me that being still is not “doing nothing”, but it is purely trusting and resting in Him.

God doesn’t want me running around like a mad woman with a bunch of things to do. This can be burdensome, aren’t I suppose to give my burdens to the Lord? I must become still and fully rest in Him. This is why I am grateful for the sabbath. The Hebrew word for sabbath is “Shabbat“, which means “rest”. Though the observance of the sabbath was given as a law from The Most High to the ancient Israelites, I still believe it holds many healthy physical and spiritual benefits. To take a day off to rest from all of my busyness and spending that time with the Lord is utterly refreshing. I can soak in His presence as long as I need, meditate on His Word, and seek Him in prayer. This may not be all in one time frame (due to motherly obligations) but ultimately God is my central focus during the day. The sabbath is truly a reflection of what it means to rest in Christ. The elements from the sabbath can be put into practice each day. Yah has me on a waiting journey that is producing fruit in me. In this waiting, I do not sit and do nothing. But in this waiting, I will rest in Jesus. I will do it cheerfully by praising God! I will be thankful and will not complain. In this waiting, I will put my trust in Elohim. I will work on not trying to achieve tasks on my own . Instead, I will invite the Holy Spirit to be my Helper. The next time God impresses on my heart or speaks through my husband to get me to “chill out” I will be obedient and become still.

This was so well written my beautiful sister. This is exactly what I needed πŸ˜‚… I like being busy, the devil’s ultimate weapon in my life is distraction and so I try to combat that with busyness… Which isn’t necessarily helpful at all.

I needed this reminder. Be still.

This post is a must read for a lot of us! I can definitely relate when it comes to all of the thoughts in my head especially during the week days when I’m working nonstop. Last week I decided that I needed to wake up a little earlier than I usually do to read a devotional before I start work and also read affirmations throughout my day to keep my spirits up! Let’s just say it has helped me so much and I’m just at peace with where I’m at in my life right now because I have made that switch to incorporate God into my life and read His Word. Your blog is amazing and I can’t wait for more of your posts!

I love what you say about inviting the Holy Spirit to be your Helper…I need to do that for the opposite reason-so I get more done! Great advice:) Thanks for sharing your heart, Racquel!

I always need this reminder, and it seems that the reminder always finds me when I am at my busiest (in the day); when I neglect to find the time to just be still. So grateful when the reminders do find me, though, because it’s the tap on my shoulder I need to breathe (loved the meditation and poem, as well!) and just be. Thank you for being so open to sharing your words. I am gratefully blessed. Looking forward to all that is to come!

I absolutely love this. It truly serves as a daily reminder. I also admire your perspective on God speaking though our husband, I think a lot of wives can relate to that part. Congrats on the beginning of something so beautiful, this blessed me and I can’t wait to hear more of your beautiful words of knowledge:)
